On the South Coast of New South Wales, Ingenia Holidays Moruya sits in an idyllic spot right on the river just a few minutes’ walk from town giving guests the perfect blend of convenience and tranquillity.
It’s a four-and-half-hour drive from Sydney or a little over two from Canberra, but with a local airport, there’s always the option to fly in and hire a car on arrival. Visitors looking to explore the area will find a wide range of activities to enjoy, here are some of our favourites.
Watery pursuits
Given its riverfront location, water sports are a popular guest activity in Moruya, with boating, fishing, kayaking and stand-up paddle boarding all made easy thanks to the park’s private boat ramp. Enjoy picturesque scenery on the Moruya Kayaking Trail taking your pick between a 14km round trip east toward the heads or a 12km paddle west towards Deua National Park.
Beach time
If you prefer your water salty, a day or two at the beach might be just what you’re looking for and you’ll find great spots just a 10-minute drive from the park. Shelly Beach and South Head Beach either side of the heads are great and while you’re there it’s worth heading up to the Moruya Heads Lookout. The views are fantastic all year round and even better during whale watching season.
Nature walks
There are walks nearby to suit all levels of fitness. Eurobodalla Regional Botanic Garden has trails from 500 metres to two kilometres, including two that are wheelchair accessible and even a special children’s walk. The Bingi Dreaming track is a gentle 14km coastal walk between Congo and Tuross Head, or head inland and tackle the Big Hole or Marble Arch walks at Deua National Park.
Mogo Wildlife Park
Just a 15-minute drive from the park, you’ll find Mogo Wildlife Park, home to many rare and exotic species. You’ll find lions, tigers and servals as well as giraffe, gorillas and rhinos. Plus, get up close and personal with heaps of smaller animals like monkeys, meerkats and otters. Enjoy keeper talks, animals encounters or book ahead and your kids can be a junior zookeeper for a day.
Enjoy a tasty treat
Head down to Riverside Park on Tuesday afternoons and buy locally grown produce that’s as fresh as it gets. Come Saturday, the same park plays host to the Moruya Country Market, where you can while away an hour or two browsing stalls packed with clothes, handicrafts and more than a few tasty treats.
