Things to Do
Old Bar Beach is an ideal holiday destination for those seeking outdoor adventures and a taste of coastal living. A little over three hours’ drive north of Sydney, this hidden gem offers natural beauty and laid-back charm — the perfect escape from the hustle and bustle of everyday life. Plus, you’ll find plenty to entertain you, whatever your interests.
Here are some of our favourite things to do in and around Old Bar Beach.
With the beach right on your doorstep, it’s a great start or end to any day. Stroll along the sands, enjoy a spot of beachcombing or simply breath deep of the fresh sea air.
Old Bar Beach is a popular reef break and boasts some stellar waves. If you’ve got little ones keen to learn, nearby Saltwater Surf School offers daily lessons on local beaches as well as gear hire.
Grab your fishing gear and cast your line into the abundant waters around Wallabi Point. Whether you’re a seasoned angler or a novice, the thrill of the catch is irresistible. Who knows, you might reel in the catch of the day!
Head 15 minutes inland and saddle up to test your mountain bike skills on the extensive network of trails at Kiwarrak State Forest. You’ll find routes catering to all skill levels.
If you prefer two feet to two wheels, lace up your hiking boots and explore the scenic trails of Saltwater National Park. The Headland walking track winds through lush rainforest to a breathtaking lookout.
The estuary at Khappinghat Creek Reserve offers calm flat water tailormade for a canoeing and kayaking. It’s also a great spot for a picnic and the lagoon offers safe water for the kids to swim in.
Head inland and enjoy a day trip through the local countryside. The Valley to Falls scenic drive is a picturesque circuit that visits Ellenborough and Potoroo Falls as well as a number of charming towns and villages.
On the fourth Sunday of each month, Old Bar Beach Promenade hosts the community markets. Wander amongst the stalls and browse the clothing, jewellery, arts and crafts. Then stock up on fresh produce and tasty treats before heading back to you cabin or caravan.
Whether you’re a nature lover, an adventure seeker or simply looking for a change of scenery, this coastal paradise has something for everyone.
